Sambo is a Russian martial art and combat sport. It originated in the Russian SFSR in the early 1920s. The word “sambo” is a Russification of the English word “submission” which was in use among the international community of judo practitioners and enthusiasts at that time. Literally translated as “self-defense without weapons”, Sambo is often considered to be a synthesis of techniques from judo and jujutsu, as well as traditional folk wrestling techniques.
Sambo shares commonalities with several other styles of folk wrestling practiced throughout Eastern Europe, such as lotta-ryu from Finland, laatta from Estonia and Belarusian kuresa or oodashi from Lithuania.
It also bears some resemblance to Mongolian Wrestling due to similar grips being used
Strengths of Sambo
Sambo is a grappling-based martial art and combat sport. The word sambo comes from the Russian phrase “combining,” and so is often translated as “self-defense without weapons.”
The main advantage of Sambo over Judo is that it doesn’t concede points for grips above the belt that do not lead to a throw or submission. This means that an opponent can grab onto your jacket, shirt, trousers, etc., and you’re still safe from point loss as long as you work for a throw or submission with your arms.
It also uses throwing techniques like Judo but does not concede points for throws executed on its own side or behind it which leads to less risk of falling victim to off
Weaknesses of Sambo
Sambos max workout is a dangerous workout, which is not recommended. The main reason for this is that this kind of workout can cause injuries to your back. Moreover, there are many other exercises you can do without risking your life.
What Makes Sambo A Tough Martial Arts Style To Beat?
Sambo is a martial arts style that is incredibly difficult to beat. That is because it has a focus on ground fighting and submission wrestling which makes it very hard for opponents to keep their arms free.
Sambo was developed in Russia as a self-defense system to use against the Japanese martial art judo. Knowing this, now you can see how it would be difficult for an opponent to take Sambo down. It would be a lot harder than just wrestling someone down on the ground, as this style focuses on submissions and chokes which can immobilize an opponent quickly.
