Casey in Golf lead
The British contingent had something to cheer about in the form of Paul Casey who just about managed to get to the sixty nine marks within the opening game. This is not the end of the tournament but the start is looking very good for the Brit. He is now currently ranked number nine in the world and the expectations at home are similarly high. He will need to keep the momentum and possibly win in order to satisfy the sports fans that are counting on him to deliver the goods. There were a few touchy moments but he made the right recovery when it mattered and he is now in the great position of completion with Shaun Micheel and Brendon De Jonge.
The hard work now begins because the competition will watch what has happened and then will make an attempt at bettering the score. The atmosphere was fine and the weather just right for making an impact. It is now up to the Brit to make the golf impact. The competition is formidable and there is a former champion that is within reach of the ultimate prize. Any lapses in concentration or technique will be severely punished and the pressure of being British will have a role to play. The fans have been mistakenly told that they deserve to win every game that their man is in the lead. This has been the bane of British players and many of them have crumbled under pressure.
Golf is different because it depends on concentration and strategy. If you are under pressure then you can slow down the game a bit until you are in a position to execute your game plan. However the pressure of being so near yet so far has caused British people in general the kind of mental collapse that can ruin a career on a permanent basis. It does not seem to be that Casey will choke on this occasion but we have to remember that the lead was taken with a struggle. There is nothing to suggest that he is invincible at the moment.
