According to the recent world golf rankings, British players have found themselves in all the top three positions. Luke Donald leads the list with a whopping 10.62 average points, and continues holding on to his last week’s position. The two other British golfers in the top ranks include Lee Westwood at number 2 and Rory McIlroy at number 3, both averaging just below 7.50 points. All the three players have been the most consistent in the world, and have held on to their previous positions with appreciable tenacity. According to most experts, these players will also be the favorites in upcoming tournaments, although the present world number one will not be playing in the Shanghai Cup taking place in early November.
Following the top three ranks up to number 12 are American, German and Australian players. They have been fighting to get up to the top, the players like McIlroy and Donald have been hard to get by. Averaging between 5.16 and 6.15, players between ranks 4 and 12 include names like Martin Kaymer of Germany, Webb Simpson of the US, and many other world class players. However, experts believe that they will take at least a full tournament or two to beat the British players in world rankings. There have been a shuffle of positions from the last week, but that has also been minor. Most fans expect Webb Simpson to go up the ladder faster than the others because of his improvement in the game.
Other British golfers in the world top 20 include Graeme McDowell and Justin Rose. Both of them have not been able to climb up from last week’s rankings owing to the tough competition which has been evident in the last few tournaments fans have enjoyed in the past month of October. One of the toughest fights have come from Spain’s Sergio Garcia who dashed into the top 20 after being ranked number 31 in the last week. His victories in the recent PGA events have ensured this astounding improvement. However, experts believe that he still has a long way to go. With consistency and determination in the way has played recently, he may soon become one of the top ten players.
